Managing a Year in the Life of the Council

This online training is suitable for town and parish council officers and councillors and will use the calendar year as a tool to illustrate the key issues that your council should undertake at particular times. In addition to understanding the principal roles and responsibilities of staff/chair/council, standards in public life and your council’s legal powers and duties, the session will also encompass policies and procedures which should be reviewed annually, timescales for dealing with end of year accounts and audit, preparing budgets and forward planning. The training aligns with CiLCA Units 1 & 2 and is recommended for current students.
The trainers will be:
- Lesley Swinbank. An experienced clerk who worked for over 30 years at Sedgefield Town Council, currently working part time as clerk to Hawthorn Parish Council in the East Durham area.
- Steve Ragg and Audrey Christie – Executive Officers, County Durham Association of Local Councils
Registration and cancellations will close 48 hours before the course. After this time all live bookings will be charged whether the person booked on attends or not but non attendees will be sent the presentation.
