Hints and Tips for completing your Register of Interests Form
Weds 14th May 2025
6 – 7pm on Zoom FREE
Every parish or town councillor must complete a Register of Interests Form within 28 days of taking up office (by 3rd June 2025 for May 2025 elections). These can be confusing to fill in and the session will go through the form step by step so that councillors can feel confident they have completed it correctly.
The completion of a Register of Interests form is one of the first responsibilities of councillors when they come into office. In public life it is essential that personal interests, whether financial or other types, are revealed. Decision making must not be skewed by personal interests outweighing the wider public interest meaning that councillors are subject to strict rules about withdrawing from involvement in decision making where it impacts their personal interests and that there is transparency about them. Register of Interests forms must be published on council websites and are the foundations of public confidence that council members are putting the public interest first before any personal gain.
The session will be led by Audrey Christie, County Durham Association of Local Councils’ Executive Officer.
