As a councillor you will regularly be dealing with personal information contained eg in emails and your council’s meeting papers and you may well be using a personal device for dealing with your council business. Understanding your data protection responsibilities as a councillor is crucial, both in your personal capacity as a councillor and for your council.
The course will demystify the often-quoted GDPR (general data protection regulations), explain the rules about dealing with personal data, the rights of individuals whose data you hold and will provide some hints and tips to keep yourself more cyber aware and protected from scams and hacks.
Councillors being better equipped to know how personal data must be dealt with also provides reassurance that your council is embracing the audit requirements (Assertion 10) for its 2025/26 Annual Governance Statement.
