Budgeting for parish and town councils

8th August 2025

Thurs 23rd Oct 2025 6 – 7.30pm

On Zoom

£20 (invoice to councils afterwards)

During the autumn your council will start to plan for its 2026/27 budget and so this training is timed to coincide with this important task.

We will be dealing with the key components of preparing your council’s budget and managing it throughout the year.

The training will comprise:

  • Financing of local councils including your precept
  • Understanding Council Tax bases
  • Setting your budget/precept request and the impact of inflation, cashflows and using cost centres
  • Understanding Reserves
  • Budget monitoring

This course is suitable for all clerks/RFOs and councillors.  It contains relevant content for CiLCA Unit 4.

Our presenter will be Steve Parkinson of the Parkinson Partnership.

Steve has over 30 years of local government finance experience at county, district and town council level, serving as Town Clerk for Alton in Hampshire from 2001 to 2015.
